Standalone Water/Oil temp and oil pressure gauge for 997 and 987
I got many inquiries from folks who don’t have SportChrono in their 9x7, asking if they can install the gauge too.
Here is a product which makes the functionality of the SportChrono gauge available as a “standalone” product.
You can call it “the SportChrono gauge for cars that don’t have SportChrono”.
It has the same features as the “SportChrono gauge” (except for the clock) and will display:
Water temp (Fahrenheit/Celsius)
Oil temp (Fahrenheit/Celsius)
Oil pressure (for the 987.1 a modification on the car is needed, either read the instructions here and/or refer to this video, start at 8:19 in the video)
Voltage display (add on extra)
PDK temperature (for PDK cars only)
The instruments in the 9x7 cluster are analog, meaning they translate electrical signals via mechanical contraptions to a value displayed by the needles, and hence they are never fully accurate. In my device all readings are read digitally from the car’s CANbus and are 100% accurate.
You can switch between the screens via either the PASM button or a supplied push-button.
A lot of time and effort was put into providing several options for mounting the gauge. For that you will receive two different pods and two different mounts. This will provide you with several different options to mount the gauge:
via a supplied stand (the gauge can be rotated freely 360 degrees)
via a mount that slides onto the upper fresh air vent
via a pod that sits in front of the tachometer
All 3 mounts are included.
The following models are supported:
997.2 Base
997.2 S / 4S
997.2 GTS
997.1 Base
997.1 S / 4S
997.2 / 997.1 TT
987.2 (all models)
987.1 (all models). For oil pressure display on the 987.1 a modification on the car is needed, either read the instructions here and/or refer to this video, start at 8:19 in the video.
You can find the installation manual either in the Documentation section of this site or by clicking here
Here is a very good video on how to install the gauge.
If you forward to 8:19 in the video, you see what is needed to do to get oil pressure display on a 987.1.
You need to choose between two types of gauges (see pictures)
The “Standard Gauge”. It is in a round case with a diameter of 55 mm. This can get mounted either on the windshield or onto the vents on top of the dashboard. In addition we are also including a smaller housing that can get mounted in front of the instrument cluster on top of the steering column.
Alternatively there is now an smaller display available. It is called the “Mini Gauge”. With dimensions of 42×25×13 mm it is significantly smaller than the Standard Gauge. It is also meant to be mounted on top of the steering column in front of the instrument cluster. But due to it’s small size it can also be mounted on other locations.
The only limitation with this gauge is that it has only one screen, but it still shows all measurements.
